Brown Bins

Not enough space to compost all your garden waste at home?

Tired of making constant trips to the local dump?

Babergh’s Garden Waste Collection Service could well be the answer.

The garden waste collection service was introduced as an optional service across the Babergh District in 2003, with the number of households subscribing to the scheme continuing to grow steadily year upon year. There are now over 7,000 subscribers to the scheme and over 3,000 tonnes of garden waste has been turned into compost in the past 12 months. This is all waste that could otherwise have ended up in landfill sites.

Who is eligible for this service?

All households in the Babergh District may apply for the garden waste collection service. However, acceptance to the scheme will be subject to availability and the suitability of access to your property by the collection vehicle.

How much does it cost?

The cost of the service is £40 per year for existing customers.  For new subscribers a £5 delivery charge will apply.

How does the scheme work?

Once payment has been received, a 240 litre brown bin will be delivered to your address with details of your first and future collection dates.

The collection service operates all year round on a fortnightly basis with a minimum of 24 available collections during each subscription period.

(There are no collections over the Christmas and New Year period).

When will my subscription start?

Your subscription will commence from the date of your first available collection.  When your current subscription is nearing the end of the 12 month period we will write to you to invite you to re-subscribe for the following year.

What will happen to my garden waste?

All garden waste collected will be emptied into a dedicated collection vehicle and taken to a local facility to be shredded and recycled into compost to be used as a soil improver.
