What is the Freedom of Information Act?
The Freedom of Information Act gives you the right to see a lot of information held by local councils, the government and authorities like the police, fire service and the NHS.
How do I request information using the Freedom of Information Act?
There are three ways to request information under the the Freedom of Information Act 2000;
Is there any charge for information requested through the Freedom of Information Act?
If the cost of complying with a request will be below £450 we will only charge for disbursments (e.g. photocopying, postage etc.) If the cost of assembling the information which is available will exceed £450 (on the basis of at least 18 hours of admin time collating the information at the rate of £25 per hour being the rate set out in the fees guidelines issued by the Department of Consitutional Affairs). In accordance with Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, the Council is not obliged to provide you with information which will cost more that £450 to gather.
You will be informed of any such fees as soon as possible after receipt of your request. Fees must be paid in full prior to the Freedom of Information request response being sent to you. Payment can be made by cash, cheque, debit/credit card. Cheques should be made payable to Babergh District Council. A receipt will be issued by the Cashiers Section.
