June 2011: The public vote: Babergh and Mid Suffolk residents vote differently on merger - Voters in south and central Suffolk went separate ways in the local poll on proposals for a merger between Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils to form a single council.

Across the two districts as a whole, 49.7% of the 64,069 residents who voted by post, phone, internet and text message voted ‘yes’ to the question as to whether the two existing district councils should be replaced by one new authority. 50.3% of residents voted ‘no’.

December 2010: Babergh and Mid Suffolk agree to Single Chief Executive - Plans by Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils to bring together their staffing structures in order to make savings, received a boost during the last week with the proposal to recruit a single new chief executive being passed by both authorities.

October 2010: Babergh and Mid Suffolk back new council - Councillors on two different Suffolk local authorities have given the thumbs-up to ground-breaking plans to create one new District Council by the spring of 2013.

September 2010: Report recommends a single council for Mid Suffolk and Babergh - Detailed proposals that, if backed by councillors on two different authorities, could lead to the creation of a new district council covering the whole of south and central Suffolk are set to be debated over the next few weeks.

July 2010: Councillors to debate Babergh/Mid Suffolk integration options - Options that show the potential savings that could be made if Babergh and Mid Suffolk Councils were to integrate have been made public today, before they are debated by Babergh and Mid Suffolk Councillors from next week.

January 2010: Suffolk Councils to consider merging services - Papers have been released today that recommend that operational and managerial services in Babergh and Mid Suffolk District Councils should be integrated by April 2011.
